Description and objectives:
This master program, taught in English, aims at training professionals in spatial, urban, or transportation planning. These professionals, either individually or as part of collaborative teams, will generate, evaluate, and implement ideas, plans, and projects in these fields. They define development plans at different territorial scales: district, city, agglomeration, metropolitan area, region. They have a global vision of the urban dynamics and they synthesize the skills of a planning team. They manage the multiple impacts on urban space and dynamics of public and private initiatives that contribute to the formation and development of cities. They participate in the definition and implementation of territorial strategies towards urban planning, transportation, land control and prospective studies. This program also includes environmental studies, training graduates to initiate projects following the principles of sustainable development. For this the students will be trained in a wide array of fields, allowing them to coordinate actions involving environmental, cultural, social and economic aspects.
This program is offered by the University Lille 1. This university designed the curriculum; seconds its academics; and awards the final certificate, which is a European Master’s Degree. The program is run locally by Pôles Universitaires Françai-Hanoi, which is a cooperation program of the French and Vietnamese governments, within Vietnam National University-Hanoi. PUF Hanoi ensures the day-to-day quality of the program, and a strong link with the French industry in Vietnam.
Curriculum:
- core knowledge of urban planning
- urban water management
- green construction and sustainable building
- environmental evaluation of projects and policies
- waste management, polluted sites and soils
- French language applied to planning issues
- AutoCAD – computer assisted design
- geographical information systems
- sustainable transportation
Each of these modules will consist of 20 hours taught by an academic or professional seconded by Lille 1 university, and 20 additional hours taught by an academic or professional with a knowledge of the local context.
Career prospects:
Graduates will have developed skills in the design and conduction of territorial and urban projects, in the evaluation of planning policies. The expansion of urban areas in Vietnam implies a huge need for qualified professionals in these fields.
They will be able to pursue a career in pluridisciplinary teams working in the sectors of territorial, urban and transportation policies. They can work either in the public or the private sector, for example in municipal of regional planning departments, in state institutions, in consulting firms or corporations (in the fields of transportation, architecture, real estate). Outstanding students will also have the possibility to continue pursue doctoral studies.
Admission:
This program is open to candidates:
- holding a bachelor degree, a Vietnamese đại học or engineering diploma, for example in civil enneering, geography, architecture, etc;
- with a professional experience in a relevant field;
- with a good command of English (TOEFL 500 or IELTS 5.5) – English courses can be organized
